"What we know is a drop, what we don't know is an OCEAN" — Isaac Newton
Welcome. I am Arkaprava Ray, an oceanographer drawn to the vast, restless boundary where the sea meets the sky. My research explores the profound dialogue between the ocean and the atmosphere—the powerful, often invisible forces that shape our climate, drive extreme events, and dictate the rhythms of the natural world. While I rely on complex models and vast datasets to decode these fluid dynamics, my ultimate goal is to uncover the hidden harmony within Earth's seemingly chaotic systems. Parsing through this immense physical puzzle requires more than just rigorous computation which is the intuition; the art behind all the discoveries of S C I E N C E.
Monsoon — the natural boon for the seasonal boost of agronomy. The subseasonal variability of monsoon, the fundamental source of prediction biases, varying with warming oceans.
Explore →Anomalous ocean warming, marine heatwaves, and jet-stream interactions driving extreme rainfall over the Indian Subcontinent.
Explore →Multiscale sea level variability — the response on cyclones cannot be ignored. Combined effort of observation and model to bring the fact.
